Getting Lost

I've always had a pretty good sense of direction. I might not have known which directions had which names, but I've always been able to get where I wanted to go pretty easily; so it's always been a weird dream of mine to get lost one day - to be able to disconnect and not be anywhere. It's not a practical dream by any means, and if I had ever gotten really, truly lost somewhere, I'd probably freak out hardcore. As a fan of "safe adventures" (those that are new experiences in a controlled environment) I decided I would try to get lost in London. I know the transportation system and I know where the larger land markers are, so if I found myself really confused and lost, I would know a way out of it. It was a success.

It started with a day with no plans and an empty stomach. I decided I should probably get out of the house and get some food, maybe do something. So I hopped on the train from Motspur Park heading toward Waterloo. I thought about getting of in Raynes Park, then didn't. I thought about getting off at Wimbledon, but stayed on the train still. And then I was at Waterloo, right by South Bank. One of the busiest stations I know. I wove in and out of rushed people, grabbed a sandwich and a water from one of the shops, and then wandered out.

I explored the eastern end of South Bank a few days ago with my friends, so I let my feet carry me west this time, past the Eye, past Parliament and Big Ben and Westminster Abby and down some streets I don't even remember and have never been on prior to yesterday. I just kept walking, thinking about nothing in particular, made a few turns here and there to mix up my path. Eventually I arrived at St. James Park across from Buckingham Palace. I called it a destination and continued my walk through there.

There are a lot of really strange looking birds in St. James. They are all really used to humans as well and will walk right up to them expecting food. I might have to get some seeds or something and revisit the place.

Joke of the day:

When is the best time to buy a bird?

When it's going cheep!
